Meet Evelyn
Evelyn Hawkins is a mother, grandmother, Neuromuscular Therapist (NMT), Master Certified Professional Coach (MCPC), and Founder of Benzo Nation Inc.
For more than 25 years, Evelyn worked as a Neuromuscular Therapist, helping people navigate pain, injury, and recovery. Her passion for understanding the human body and helping others led her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and later become a Master Certified Professional Coach.
But Benzo Nation was not born from a career—it was born from lived experience.
In 1997, Evelyn was prescribed a benzodiazepine (klonopin) for insomnia and remained on it as prescribed for more than two decades. Over time, her health began to deteriorate. What followed was a life-changing journey through benzodiazepine dependence, withdrawal, and a condition now recognized as Benzodiazepine-Induced Neurological Dysfunction (BIND).
The effects were devastating. Simple tasks that most people take for granted—walking, reading, concentrating, driving, and participating in everyday life—became overwhelming challenges. Yet through years of struggle, Evelyn discovered something powerful: people need truth, support, and hope.
That realization became the foundation of Benzo Nation.
Today, Evelyn is dedicated to raising awareness about the risks associated with benzodiazepines and other psychiatric medications, amplifying the voices of those who have been harmed, and helping individuals and families feel less alone in their recovery journey.
Through storytelling, education, advocacy, community support, coaching, and future documentary projects, Benzo Nation exists to shine a light on experiences that have too often remained hidden.
Evelyn's mission is simple:
To educate, advocate, and amplify real stories of medication harm so that fewer lives are lost, more people are heard, and those who are suffering know they are not alone.
